McAllen Medical Center is a 441-bed hospital that is the only designated advanced Level III Trauma Center for Hidalgo County, and its NICU remains the region's only neonatal surgical center. The hospital is a certified Primary Stroke Center, works with the federal Veterans Administration to provide services to area veterans, and has a family medicine residency program. Services provided at the hospital include advanced wound care, maternity care, neurosurgery and orthopedics.
